Dal prossimo 10 settembre sino al 2 ottobre, la Galleria Gagliardi, in occasione del suo 25° anniversario di attività, presenta BELLEZZA VERA, una mostra personale di Riccardo Mannelli, nella quale si raccolgono una quindicina di tecniche miste su carta-cotone intelaiata, insieme a decine di disegni ed acquarelli di preziosa qualità pittorica e grafica. Mannelli, come sempre mette in scena racconti dove corpi e volti vengono presentati nella consapevolezza che, come scrive la curatrice della mostra Alessandra Frosini “...la bellezza è un bene fragile per eccellenza, che ci trasforma, lascia traccia e ci dà vita, nutrita dai nostri limiti e dalle nostre potenzialità. Non possiamo farne a meno dopo che l’abbiamo incontrata, perché non coincide con la perfezione, ma è uno stato dell’Anima. Nelle opere di Mannelli la curatrice precisa “… Nulla è lasciato al caso e così nel taglio delle composizioni e nella costruzione del disegno di queste figure si ritrovano punti di riferimento che affondano le loro radici nella tradizione artistica passata, partendo dal Quattrocento toscano, attraverso poi il simbolismo e l'espressionismo tedesco e per autori come Klimt, Kokoschka e Schiele, da cui mutua una nuova sintesi fra spirito e sensi, declinata in una dimensione più intima della realtà. Fra i contemporanei è vicino al realismo neo-espressionista di Lucian Freud, di cui sottolinea i segni che l'esistenza lascia sui corpi umani. Di Francis Bacon riprende e richiama la pittura che inventa il corpo e lo pone nello spazio, nella superficie del quadro, secondo un movimento capace di pensare un corpo, concedendo allo sguardo angolature e superfici inedite. Quello che si crea è allora un racconto, è storia simultanea, che si fa percorrere a grandissima velocità nel momento in cui la parola-segno rallenta, concentra e dilata lo spazio. Del resto il racconto è, come dice Roland Barthes, una categoria trans-storica, fuori dal tempo, che può sostanziarsi in innumerevoli supporti materiali, dalla parola, al gesto, alla scrittura, all'immagine. Mannelli è un autore di racconti in cui la maggior parte dell'atmosfera resta sospesa per tendere l'immaginazione, per creare un equilibrio che è sempre precario, per cogliere il qui e ora, cancellando un solo modo di raccontare e istituendone un altro, differente, dotato di un ritmo proprio.”

From 10 September until 2 October, the Galleria Gagliardi will be presenting “Bellezza Vera” [True Beauty], a solo exhibition of works by Riccardo Mannelli, featuring about fifteen mixed techniques on framed cotton paper, along with dozens of drawings and watercolours of precious painting and graphic quality. As always, Mannelli stages stories where bodies and faces are presented with the awareness that, as the curator of the exhibition Alessandra Frosini writes “...beauty is a fragile gift par excellence, which transforms us, leaves a trace and breathes life into us, nourished by our limits and by our potential. Once we meet beauty, we simply cannot do without it, because it does not coincide with perfection but is rather a state of the Soul.” In Mannelli’s works, the curator explains “… Nothing is left to chance and so, in editing the compositions and building up the drawing of these figures, we find points of reference rooted in the artistic tradition of the past, starting from the Tuscan 15^th century, progressing through symbolism and German expressionism and via authors like Klimt, Kokoschka and Schiele, from whom he borrows a new synthesis between soul and senses, revealed in a more intimate dimension of reality. Among his contemporaries, he is close to the neo-expressionist realism of Lucian Freud, of which he underscores the marks left by life on human bodies. From Francis Bacon he takes and presents the style which invents the body and places it in the space, on the surface of the painting, according to a movement capable of conceiving a body, granting the eye unprecedented angles and surfaces. What is created is a simultaneous story, which runs by at high speed when the word-sign slows down, concentrating and expanding space. To quote Roland Barthes, storytelling falls within a trans-historical category, detached from time, which can be embodied in countless tangible supports, from words to actions, writings and images. Mannelli is the author of stories in which most of the atmosphere remains suspended, to stretch the imagination, to create a balance which is always precarious, to grasp the here and now, cancelling one way of storytelling and forming another, different way, with a rhythm all of its own.”
